رابطه متافيزيك و علوم شناختي: نقدي بر متافيزيك طبيعي‌شده آلوين گولدمن

علوم شناختي دانشي ميان‌رشته‌اي است كه به مطالعه چيستي ذهن و نحوه عملكرد آن مي‌پردازد. در مقابل، دلمشغولي متافيزيك، مطالعه و كشف ساختارهاي عيني واقعيت است. به غير از «متافيزيك ذهن» كه نقطه اشتراك اين دو حوزه به شمار مي‌آيد، ارتباط چنداني ميان آن‌ها متصور نيست. با اينحال، گولدمن -فيلسوف معاصر- معتقد است هر چند مطالعه ذهن تنها بخشي از متافيزيك به شمار مي‌رود، اما در جريان هر تحقيق متافيزيكي نقش ايفا مي‌كند. از نظر او، مطالعه ذهن بخشي از هر تحقيق متافيزيكي است، حتي آن دسته از تحقيقات متافيزيكي كه پرسش از ذهن و حالات ذهني هدف آن‌ها نيست. او پروژه‌اش را «متافيزيك طبيعي‌شده» مي‌نامد و بر اساس آن، مي‌كوشد نشان دهد كه يافته‌هاي علوم شناختي، نقش اساسي در پذيرش يا رد يك نظريه متافيزيكي ايفا مي‌كنند. هدف ما در اين مقاله، تحليل و بررسي رابطه متافيزيك و علوم شناختي بر مبناي متافيزيك طبيعي شده آلوين گولدمن است. بر اين اساس، نشان خواهيم داد كه هر چند يافته‌هاي علوم شناختي مي‌توانند نقش قابل توجهي در متافيزيك ذهن و متافيزيك‌هاي مفهوم‌گرا داشته باشند، اما نقش آن‌ها در متافيزيك‌هاي واقع‌گرا محل ترديد است. بعلاوه، نشان خواهيم داد كه يافته‌هاي علوم شناختي به تنهايي و بدون بهره‌گيري از يك پيش‌زمينه متافيزيكي نمي‌توانند در داوري‌هاي متافيزيكي نقش‌آفريني كنند.

Cognitive science is an interdisciplinary study what is the mind and how it works. By contrast, metaphysics concern is the study and discovery of objective structures of reality. Apart from the "metaphysics of mind", which is the point of reference for these two domains, there is not much connection between them. The "Naturalized Metaphysics" project is a metaphysical approach in which contemporary philosopher, Alvin Goldman, seeks to show that the findings of cognitive science play an essential role in accepting or rejecting a metaphysical theory. In his view, although the study of the mind is only part of the metaphysics, it plays a role in any metaphysical inquiry. He believes that the study of the mind is part of any metaphysical inquiry, even those metaphysical investigations that are not a question of the mind and the mental state of their purpose. Our goal in this paper is to analyze the relationship between metaphysics and cognitive science based on Naturalized Metaphysics of Alvin Goldman. Accordingly, we will show that although cognitive science findings can play a significant role in the metaphysics of mind and conceptual metaphysics, their role in realistic metaphysics is doubtful. In addition, we will show that the findings of cognitive science alone can not play a role in metaphysical judgments without using a metaphysical background
