نقش آزمايش‌‌هاي فكري در فلسفه

اين مقاله در مقام تعريف، تبيين اهميت و جايگاه آزمايش‌‌‌‌هاي فكري در فلسفه است. در گام نخست تاريخچه‌‌‌‌اي موجز از چگونگي پيدايش اصطلاح آزمايش فكري و نقش آن در تاريخ انديشه بيان شده است. در گام دوم، دو تعريف مهم سورنسن و گندلر از آزمايش‌‌‌‌هاي فكري مورد تحليل قرار گرفته و پس از اشاره به چهار رهيافت كلي به آزمايش‌‌‌‌هاي فكري، نقش شهود در آنها بررسي شده است. همچنين دربارۀ تفاوت آزمايش‌‌‌‌هاي فكري با پديده‌‌‌‌هاي به‌‌‌‌ظاهر مشابهي چون داستان‌‌‌‌هاي علمي‌‌‌‌ـ‌‌‌‌تخيلي و حِكمي، آزمايش‌‌‌‌هاي آرماني و براهين رياضي بحث شده است. گفتني است كه پس از واكاوي نقش تخيل در آزمايش‌‌‌‌هاي فكري، به تحليل بيشتر نقش آزمايش‌‌‌‌هاي فكري در فلسفه پرداخته شده است؛ نقشي كه درواقع در چهار كاركرد اصليِ تبيين نمونه‌‌‌‌هاي نقضي، نظريه‌‌‌‌پردازي، تأييد يك تئوري و تبيين ارتباطات ضروري بيشتر تبلور يافته است. همچنين انسان معلّق ابن‌‌‌‌سينا نيز به‌‌‌‌عنوانِ مصداق اتم آزمايش فكري نزد فيلسوفان مسلمان به‌‌‌‌اجمال تحليل شده است. فلسفۀ اخلاق نيز براساسِ يافته‌‌‌‌هاي مقاله به‌‌‌‌عنوانِ گره‌‌‌‌گاه اصلي فلسفه با آزمايش‌‌‌‌هاي فكري شناخته شده است.

This paper explores the significance and the status of thought experiments in philosophy. In the first step, we briefly survey the history of how the term "thought experiment" emerged and its role in the history of thought. In the second step, we analyze two important definitions of thought experiment offered by Sorensen and Gandler, and after pointing out four general approaches to thought experiments, we examine the role of intuition in them. We also discuss the difference between the experiments with apparently similar status, such as science fictions, ideal experiments and mathematical arguments. After analyzing the role of imagination in thought experiments, we further analyze the role of thought experiment in philosophy and argue that there are four main functions for thought experiments namely, explaining defective examples, theorizing, confirming a theory, and explaining essential connections. At the end, the floating man of Avicenna has also been briefly analyzed as an example of a thought experiment offered by a Muslim philosopher.
