Application of Distribution Lines For data Communication

This paper addresses the potential applications of Distribution Line Carrier (DLC) as an innovative technology for communication. Distribution power line can be considered as an individual media, which is supervised by electricity provider. Some of its applications are home automation. Meter reading. Metering the important factor of power line and transmitting them, making LAN network using low voltage grids, and so on. Data transmission over power lines has received increasing attention in recent years. Power line wiring has also been a subject of much interest in the context of wireless local area network. The motivation provided by the latter has led to considerable activity aimed at the development of power line modems. Although power line has some positive aspects. It should be noticed that it has some disadvantages too, for example there are many noises in the power line (narrow band, burst...) It has an open structure and can be influenced by electromagnetic waves of the air (radio, TV, mobile...) This paper examines characteristic of power line as a communication media and itʹs related standards.
