سياست خارجي امارات متحده عربي از 1971 تاكنون با تغييرات الگويي و رفتاري همراه بوده است. علي رغم بحران هاي مداوم در سرتاسر خاورميانه و خليج فارس، ماهيت فدرال امارات متحده عربي نوعي سياست خارجي سازنده ايجاد كرده كه به بقاي اين كشور آسيب پذير منجر شده است؛ به عبارت ديگر، امارات متحده عربي كشوري با سياست خارجي چندگانه است. بررسي سياست خارجي امارات متحده عربي از زمان تاسيس آن در سال 1971 نشان داده كه مسايل و منافع ويژه اي در سراسر اين دوره ثابت باقي مانده است. در عين حال، تغييرات در عرصه جهاني و دگرگوني در ساختار نظام بين الملل، به ويژه فروپاشي اتحاد جماهير شوروي و ظهور نظام تك قطبي، تاثير مستقيمي بر دخالت ساير قدرت هاي بزرگ در منطقه خليج فارس داشته است و در پاسخ به اين تغييرات، الگوهايي كه در آن ها امارات متحده عربي منافع سياست خارجي خود را در منطقه دنبال مي كند، تغيير كرده است كه اين الگوها در ميان موضوعات اساسي به عنوان اجزاي مهم سياست خارجي امارات، قابل شناسايي است. اين مقاله درصدد پاسخ دهي به اين پرسش اصلي بوده كه «سياست خارجي امارات از سال 1971 تا 2017 چه تحولات الگويي را تجربه كرده است؟» پاسخ اين بوده كه اين تحولات الگويي عبارت بوده اند از: تعهدگرايي عربي و همزيستي اسلامي، رفتار صلح آميز و بي طرفانه در قبال مسايل منطقه، طرف داري اعراب، طرف داري غرب، ميانه روي و تعهد به مشاركت امنيتي. در واقع سياست منطقه اي و جهاني امارات، تابعي از تحولات الگويي در سياست خارجي آن بوده است. اين مقاله با استفاده از منابع كتابخانه اي و روش توصيفي تبييني تلاش كرده است تا با بررسي تحولات سياست خارجي امارات متحده عربي از زمان تاسيس آن، در روشي كه امارات متحده عربي در آن اهداف سياست خارجي خود را دنبال مي كند، سبك خاصي را تشخيص و توضيح دهد.

UAE foreign policy has been accompanied by pattern and behavioral changes since 1971. Despite the continuous crises throughout the Middle East and the Gulf, the federal nature of the United Arab Emirates has created a constructive foreign policy that has caused the survival of this vulnerable country. In other words, the United Arab Emirates is a country of multiple foreign policies. A study of the UAE's foreign policy since its establishment in 2007 shows that special issues and interests have remained constant throughout this period. At the same time, changes in the world arena and transformations in the structure of the international system, particularly the fall of the Soviet unio‎n and the emergence of a unipolar system, have had a direct impact on the intervention of other major powers in the Persian Gulf. In response to these changes, the patterns by which the United Arab Emirates pursues its foreign policy interests in the region have changed; Nevertheless, these patterns are identifiable from the core points as important components of UAE foreign policy. This article seeks to answer the key question of what pattern developments UAE foreign policy has undergone from 1971 to 2017. Such pattern developments of foreign policy include Arab commitment and Islamic co-existence, peaceful and impartial treatment of regional issues, pro-Arab, pro-Western, moderation and commitment to security participation. Indeed, regional and global policy in the UAE is a function of the pattern developments of foreign policy. Using library resources and a descriptive-explanatory method, this paper attempts to identify a particular style in the way the UAE pursues its foreign policy goals by examining the foreign policy developments since its establishment.
