ايالات ‌متحده ‌آمريكا در سال‌هاي اخير با اعمال فشارهاي مضاعف به ‌بهانه وجود شائبه ‌در برنامه هسته‌اي ايران، تحريم‌هاي بي ‌سابقه‌اي را عليه جمهوري ‌اسلامي اعمال كرده است. علاوه بر اين، به‌كمك دستگاه‌هاي تبليغاتي خود تلاش كرده تا افكار عمومي جهان را نسبت به‌ايران حساس كرده و چهره‌اي جنگ‌ طلب از كشور در ذهن جهانيان تصوير كند. به ‌نظر مي‌رسد راه برون‌ رفت از فضاي فعلي و خنثي كردن راهبردهاي سياسي و ديپلماتيك ايالات ‌متحده، بهره‌گيري از مؤلفه‌هاي مولد قدرت نرم جمهوري ‌اسلامي است. در اين راستا مي‌توان از «ديپلماسي عمومي» به‌ مثابه ‌ابزار قدرت نرم جمهوري ‌اسلامي جهت «تصوير سازي» مثبت و حقيقي در افكار عمومي جهان بهره برد. به عقيده برخي از نظريه پردازان تنها راه مهار ايران از طريق قدرت نرم آمريكا است كه هزينه كمتر و نتيجه بهتر و سريع‌تر مي‌دهد. دولت آمريكا در طول تجربه‌خود از عملكرد و ماهيت عقيدتي و فرهنگي نظام جمهوري ‌اسلامي ‌ايران، به‌اين نكته مهم وقوف پيدا كرده است كه ماهيت، چيستي، توان و قدرت ايران، بيش از هر چيز معطوف به‌توانمندهاي نرم، فرهنگي و ارزشي است. به‌همين جهت اين كشور در كنار رويكرد تحريم، تهديد و فشارهاي اقتصادي و سياسي خود به مقابله نرم روي آورده و در پي تضعيف پايه‌هاي اعتقادي نظام جمهوري ‌اسلامي‌ ايران به‌ عنوان يك راهبرد كليدي برآمده است.

In addition, through its propaganda agencies, it has tried to make the world's public opinion sensitive to Iran and portray a warlike image of the country in the minds of the world. The way out of the current atmosphere and thwart US political and diplomatic strategies seems to be to take advantage of the Islamic Republic's soft power-generating components. In this regard, public diplomacy can be used as a tool of the Islamic Republic's soft power to positively and truly portray public opinion in the world. Some theorists believe that the only way to contain Iran through US soft power is to pay less and get better and faster results. Throughout its experience of the ideological and cultural nature and function of the Islamic Republic of Iran system, the US government has realized that the essence, nature, power and power of Iran is primarily focused on soft, cultural, and value abilities. For this reason, along with its approach to sanctions, threats and economic and political pressures, the country has taken a soft tack and has sought to weaken the Islamic Republic of Iran's belief system as a key strategy.
