چكيده فارسي :
شهر هم مانند هر موجود زنده اي سرگذشت دارد روزي ساخته مي شود و به وجود مي آيد رشد مي كند به جواني مي رسد و دوره طلايي اش را مي
گذراند كم كم بي رمق و پير مي شود و روزي هم مي ميرد و از بين مي رود .وس شهري است كه در طول حافظه طولاني تاريخ تمامي اين دوره ها را
از سرگذرانده و بسيار آباد و مشهور بوده است و حتي قسمتي از جاده معروف خراسان كه كاروان هاي حله زمان فرخي از آن مي گذشته را نيز شامل
مي شده است .
اين پژوهش به بررسي جغرافياي تاريخي توس در گذر زمان مي پردازد ، در واقع مبحثي بين رشته اي محسوب مي شود، هم تاريخ و هم جغرافي را
در بر مي گيرد به اين معني كه تاريخ توس ،مردم ،جغرافياي طبيعي و هرآنچه اين حوزه را شامل مي شود را تا حد لزوم بيان كرده است بنابراين به
موازات اين بررسي مي توان به علت بسياري از اقدامات صورت گرفته پي برد دلايل بسياري از موفقيت ها و ناكامي هايي كه در طول تاريخ توس و
بطور گسترده تر در خراسان بزرگ رخ داده را دريافت و با كمك و ارزيابي اين مجموعه فاكتور در به تصوير كشيدن اين ديار كهن عمل كرد
