سير تاريخي مسأله "اصالت" از موضوعاتي هست كه با بررسي و نگاهي دقيق به آن، ميتوان از نسبت هاي ناروا به ديگران جلوگيري كرد. يكي از اين شخصيت ها كه نسبت هاي ناصحيح به آن داده مي شود، سهروردي مي باشد كه به وي نسبت اصالت ماهيتي داده اند؛ موضوع حكمت او انوار است. او نور را به آنچه ظاهر بنفسه و مظهر لغيره است تعريف مي نمايد. سهروردي بر پايه ي آن چه ظاهر است به بحث درباره ي ساختار حقيقت كه مستقيماً معلوم ما واقع ميشود مي پردازد. هدف اصلي پژوهش پيش رو، بررسي بحث دامنه دار اصالت است. معروف است كه سهروردي قائل اصالت ماهيت بوده است، اما در واقع اصالت ماهيتي دانستن سهروردي غلطي رايج مي باشد. سهروردي مفهوم مطلق ماهيت و وجود را امري اعتباري مي داند، اما ماهيت موجوده (موجود) را كه در عالم واقع داراي آثار خارجي است، حقيقي مي داند. البته اصلا در آن زمان بحث اصالت مطرح نبود و آنچه از سوي ايشان مطرح شده و اهميت داشت مفهوم نور و در مقابل آن مفهوم ظلمت بوده است. وي نور را بناي عالم قرار داده است. يا بهتر است بگوييم ايشان نگاهي انيتي، حضوري، آگاهي، نوري، شهودي دارد و اين مسايل در نظام حكمي اشراق اصالت دارند
