ادبيات كمونيستي به عنوان شاخه‌اي از ادبيات متعهد از اواخر قرن نوزدهم سرتاسر اروپا و بخش‌هاي زيادي از شرق و روسيه را تحت‌تأثير قرارداد. ايدئولوژي كمونيسم گرچه زادۀ نظريات ماركسيستي ماركس و انگلس است، اما ويژگي «سوسيال دموكراسي» در حزب كارگر روسيه دليل اصلي جهاني شدن كمونيسم و درنورديدن مرزهاي شوروي محسوب مي‌شود.در تلفيق ادبيات با ايدئولوژي، دو رويكرد پيش آمده‌است: جريان هايي كه كمونيسم را، اگرچه كوتاه مدت و سطحي، پذيرفته‌ اند و ديگري جريان‌هايي كه عليه كمونيسم و تعهدات آن موضع گرفته‌اند.در اين راستا رئاليسم سوسياليستي را به‌ويژه در حوزۀ روسيه، مي‌توان جدي‌ترين جنبش ادبي-اجتماعي بعد از رنسانس خواند. پس از آن حتي سوررئاليسم نيز به‌واسطۀ آندره برتون درگير افكار كمونيستي مي‌شود و از بيانيۀ اوليۀ خود فرسنگ‌ها فاصله مي‌گيرد. اگزيستانسياليسم نيز به مثابۀ ادبيات فلسفي و به بهانۀ مسؤول بودن انسان در جهان هستي نوع ديگري از كمونيسم را وارد ادبيات مي‌كند. از سوي ديگر جريان اكسپرسيونيسم در آلمان غربي به شدت بر سياست‌هاي كمونيستي و تبديل انسان كارگر به ماشين خدمتكار مي‌تازد و تعهدستيزي و مسؤوليت‌گريزي و پوچي را برابر كمونيسم قرار مي‌دهد. بدين ترتيب زيرسايۀ كمونيسم جريان‌هاي ادبي متنوع و متضادي خلق‌شده‌است كه تعريف هنري از «شاهكار ادبي» را به شدت متزلزل كرده‌است.

Communist literature as a branch of committed literature has effected on the all of Europe and many parts of eastern world and Russia at the end of the nineteenth century. Although communist ideology is the result of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels’ theories, the feature of “Social Democracy” in the Russia labor party is the main reason of communism’s becoming international and its expansion. There are two approaches in the merging of literature and ideology: first, the movements which have accepted communism event though it was short time and superficial and second, the movements which were against communism and its commitments. In the interim, Socialist Realism can be called most serious literary-social movement after Renascence in Russia. Aftermath, even Surrealism was engaged in communism ideology by André Breton and kept aloof from its early manifestation. Existentialism also, as a philosophical literature and under the pretext of responsibility of human kind has entered another kind of communism into literature. On the other hand, Expressionism movement in West Germany, extremely criticized communism policies and becoming of labor to automated machine.it put anit-communism and evasion from responsibility and Absurd against communism. Thus, different and opposite movements emerged under the shadow of communism which have weakened the artistic definition of “Literary Masterpiece”.
