Trade Policy and Economic Growth: The Case of Oil Exporting Countries

The objective of this paper, in analysis of economic growth of oil exporting countries, is based on natural resource abundance countries growth and trade policy and economic growth literature. The paper, using unbalanced panel data model, shows that there is robust and significant relationship between economic growth and different measures in trade policy between 1960-1999. Trade openness has had positive effect on economic growth whereas trade constraints have slowed their economic growth. The findings state that physical investment, human capital, terms of trade improvement, foreign direct investment, manufacture export and export growth have had positive effect and government expenditure and inflation negative effect on oil exporting countries growth. In addition conditional convergence has been observed on economic growth of these countries.
