امروزه نقش مبلمان شهري در خدمت رساني به شهروندان هر شهر بر كسي پوشيده نيست. اما مسئولين امور دست اندركاران امور شهري معتقدند كه گذشته از امر خدمات رساني، حفظ هويت و زيبايي سيماي شهري نيز از اولويت هاي بالايي برخوردار است. چنانچه بعضاً مشاهده مي شود، با گسترش بي ضابطه بسياري از شهرهاي بزرگ و افزايش جمعيت، رفته رفته تسلط مسئولين شهري به كنترل اوضاع اجتماعي و پرداختن به امور سيماي شهرها و ساماندهي آنها كمتر ازگذشته مي شود. بخش عمده اي از مشكلات شهري نظير ترافيك، انواع آلودگي، اختلالات رواني و .... ناشي از طراحي نامناسب شهري در بخش هاي مختلف شبكه معابر مي‌باشد. طراحي فني و معمارانه، خود ضمن زيبا كردن چهره شهر، در كاهش مشكلات ترافيكي، بروز خشونت ها و ساير ناهنجاري هاي اجتماعي تأثيرگذار خواهد بود. در اين پژوهش تأثير مبلمان شهري به همراه المان هاي معماري بناهاي شهري بر كاهش مشكلات حمل و نقل و ترافيك شهرها مورد بررسي قرار گرفت.
