An Analytical Study of the Industrial Structure and the Comparative Advantage of Industries In Mazandaran Province

As a result of industrial economic policies, changes in the value-added of industrial activities are important indices in enhancements in the situation of the structure of industries. This research has used the value-added data of the sixteen industries of the province of Mazandran to analyze the industrial structure and to determine the comparative advantage of each of the industrial activities using the common indices used, including the average index of structural changes and their revealed comparative advantage (RCA) for the years 1998-2000. The obtained results based on the structural analysis index show that, among the investigated industries with two digit ISIC codes, industries producing motor vehicles, paper and paper products, production of furniture and the fundamental metals had a great increase in the value-added compared with the base year, that is, showed positive structuralʹ changes. Also based on the RCA index in the above mentioned years in Mazandaran, industries of food and drink, timber and timber products, textiles, furniture, paper and paper products had a more advantageous value-added in comparison with the country. From the above mentioned industrial activities, only industries of furniture and paper and paper products had fundamental changes according to comparative advantage.
