دين زرتشت از كهن ترين ادياني است كه حاوي مباني و مايه هاي اصيل عرفاني بوده و بر اديان شرقي و غربي تأثير شگرف داشته است. بي شك در عرفان و تصوف بيش از هر رشته ديگري، ميراث زرتشتي حفظ و نگهداري شده و با تفسيرهاي جديد و مناسب با دين اسلام ارايه گرديده است. با توجه به اهميت نور در عرفان زرتشتي بايد به اين نكته پرداخت كه مولوي نيز به عنوان يك عارف نامي مانند ساير عرفاي پيش از خود و تحت تأثير عرفان زرتشت به نماد نور توجه داشته و در معاني و مفاهيم متعالي آن تأمل كرده است. در دين زرتشت آتش و نور، نشانه و رمز وجودي خداوند، انوار تابنده از آن ذات اقدس، معرفت و عرفان، شناخت حكمت و راه رسيدن به ذات حق باري تعالي هستند. معرفت و عرفان او نيز موضوعات بنيادين عرفاني از قبيل حقيقت وجود، حقيقت انبيا و اوليا، مسأله رويت حق، مسأله وحدت وجود و مقام فنا و بقا را كه از پيچيده ترين موضوعات عرفاني است، از طريق نماد نور شرح و بسط داده است. البته بايد متذكر شد كه نماد نور در آثار مولانا نسبت به پيشينيانش از بسامد بالايي برخوردار است، و صور خيال و ايماژهاي جذاب و جالبي دارد. مولانا براساس تجربه عرفاني خود، واژه ي نور را براي توصيف حقيقت وجود حق به كار مي برد، كه در اين مقاله به بررسي آن پرداخته مي‌شود.
