In modern finished product warehouses, Integrated Supply Chain Logistics is used to align all individual operating aspects in terms of planning and control, information management and areas of responsibility. This function becomes even more important for companies that need to control and manage multiple sites. In the past, the ceramic industry focused most of its resources and efforts on production aspects, an approach that enabled the Italian industry to maintain an unchallenged world leadership in terms of products. At the same time, however, it showed very little interest in efficient warehouse management. Historically, the warehouse has been considered as one of the least important of all company departments, a mere cost centre and inevitably a closed environment accessible only to a few people who were also the custodians of information.
