در عصر حاضر، نيروي پليس در كشورهاي پيشرفته، دوره اقتدارگرايي را پشت سر گذاشته و وارد دوره جامعه گرايي شده است. در اين دوره پليس جهت برقراري يك رابطه نزديك با افراد جامعه حركت مي كند و به آموزش و آگاه سازي آنان مي پردازد. پليس مردمي جلب مشاركت عمومي را در راستاي حل مشكلات جامعه، مهم ترين هدف خود مي پندارد و بر اين باور است كه امنيت يك توليد جمعي است. در پيشگيري اجتماعي، پليس تعامل بسيار نزديك با خانواده ها و نهاد هاي اجتماعي، فرهنگي و مذهبي موجود در جامعه برقرار مي نمايد. با توجه به مسئوليت حساس و جايگاه ويژه نيروهاي انتظامي و لزوم حفظ امنيت در عصري كه اصول اخلاقي به بهانه هاي واهي زير پا نهاده شده و ارزشهاي اخلاقي رنگ باخته و پايمال مي شود، آشنايي با اخلاق و رعايت آن مي تواند نقش مهمي در مصونيت و جلوگيري از رواج مشكلات و پيشگيري از جرم ايفا نمايد. با توجه به اهميت موضوع پيشگيري و كاركردهاي متعدد و مهم پليس در پيشگيري از جرم، پژوهش حاضر با هدف شناسايي نقش پليس در پيشگيري اجتماعي از جرم به بررسي موضوع پرداخت.
