متامفتامين ماده اي محرك از گروه آمفتامين‌ها بوده و بسيار اعتيادآور است. تحقيق حاضر به بررسي اجمالي روش هاي سنتز، شناسايي و اندازه گيري متامفتامين و چگونگي ظهور و گسترش آن در سرتاسر دنيا پرداخته است. سوء استفاده اين ماده يكي از معضلات مهم بهداشتي و اجتماعي در اغلب جوامع بشري به خصوص جمعيت جوان مي باشد و عدم آگاهي از آثار و ويژگي هاي اين ماده مي تواند نگران كننده بوده و ضربات سنگين و جبران ناپذيري را تحميل كند. در ايران امروز نيز همانند كشورهاي صنعتي و پيشرفته، يكي از شايعترين مواد صنعتي، متامفتامين است. متامفتامين در همه جاي دنيا به عنوان ماده اي با درجه تخريب بالا شناخته مي‌شود. اما در ايران به جز عوارض جسمي و رواني براي مصرف كننده، رد پاي اين ماده در ماجراهايي چون جنون و گاهي پرونده هاي قتل ديده مي‌شود. برابر آمار مرگ و مير ناشي از مصرف مواد مخدر درصد بالايي از اين مرگ و ميرها به خاطر مصرف مواد صنعتي بالاخص آمفتامين ها هستند. لذا آشنايي با خواص فيزيكي و شيميايي اين ماده جزء ضرورت ها و نيازهاي جامعه جوان امروز به شمار مي رود و با توجه به اينكه براي پيشگيري از هر پديده اي، شناسايي منابع توليدي و عوارض آن پديده ضرورت دارد، اين نوشتار قصد دارد با مروري بر تاريخچه و پيشگامان ظهور متامفتامين، اطلاعاتي دقيق از اين ماده، روشهاي شناسايي و اندازه گيري آن و آثار و پيامدهاي ناشي از مصرف آن در اختيار مخاطبين قرار دهد.
