Book review of “Form and Creation in Iranian Music”

كتاب «فرم و آفرينش در موسيقي ايران» بر اساس يكي از عناوين دروس دانشگاهي در رشته‌ي موسيقي ايراني نگاشته و تدوين شده است و دست‌كم به اين دليل كه منابع مكتوب در اين زمينه بسيار محدودند، كتاب حاضر منبعي باارزش تلقي مي‌شود و نقد آن نيز با هدف ايجاد زمينه‌هاي بيش‌تر مطالعه در اين حوزه انجام شده است. تأمين‌كننده‌ي بخش عمده‌اي از پشتوانه‌هاي نظري اين كتاب، ايده‌پردازي‌ها و تجربيات شخصي نويسنده به‌عنوان يك متخصص با سابقه و خوش‌نام در اين زمينه بوده‌است. به‌كارگيريِ نمونه‌هاي متعدد و متنوع، مرتبط با عناوين و مطالب و هم‌چنين محتواي بخش آخر كتاب درخصوص گونه‌هاي معمول در موسيقي ايرانياز نقاط قوت اثراست. اما مواردي هم‌چون پراكندگي مطالب در برخي عناوين، عدم ارائه‌ي تعريف و توضيح لازم در مورد برخي اصطلاحات و ابهام در به‌كارگيري بخشي از واژگان تخصصي از نقاط ضعف اين كتاب هستند.

The book “Form and creation in Iranian music” has been written and edited based on one of the academic courses of Iranian music and at least because of the lack of references in this field, this book is considered as a referable and rich source, its criticize has been done with the aim of developing the domains of study in this field. The source of the major theoretical backgrounds of the book is the personal experiences and ideas of the author, as a well-known export in this field. Using numerous and various examples related to the titles and issues as well as the content of the last chapter about the genres in Iranian music can be considered as the highlights. Incoherence of the contents in certain titles, not presenting and enough explanations of some expressions and ambiguity when using certain specialized vocabulary can be counted as weaknesses of the work.
