كلمه ضابط از ريشه ضبط گرفته شده و در لغت به معناي نگاهدارنده، حفظ كننده، حاكم والي و مفتش و آنكه را از جانب سلطان اداره مي‌كند مي‌باشد. ضابطين دادگستري كه جمع ضابط مي‌باشد در اصطلاح به جمع مامورين دولتي كه بازوي اجرايي دادسراها و دادگاه‌ها در انجام وظايفشان مي‌باشند اطلاق مي‌شود. ضابطين– چه خاص و چه عام- تحت نظارت و تعليمات مقام قضائي انجام وظيفه مي‌نمايند كه رياست نظارت بر ضابطين دادگستري از هر حيث كه به عنوان ضابط بر عهده دادستان بوده و در صورت تخلف در عمل جرم بوده و پس از رسيدگي به 3 ماه تا يك سال انفصال از خدمت دولتي محكوم خواهند شد . مرجع ضابطين دادگستري به عنوان يكي از سازمان‌هاي وابسته به نهاد دادرسي يكي از مهمترين وظايف را در راستاي تحقق بخشيدن به عدالت كيفري به عهده دارند و به دليل نوع حساسيت و اهميت اين وظيفه و نقش آن در اصلاح جامعه و ارعاب مجرمين و درنهايت گرفتارشدن آن در چنگال عدالت و حفاضت از حقوق . آزادي هاي افراد جامعه ضرورت دارد توجه ي ويژه از هر حيث در راستاي تقويت اين مرجع از طرف مسئولان امر به عمل آيد.

The Persian word for bailiff comes from a root meaning confiscation and as a word it means protector, guardian, governor, and investigator. The plural for bailiff is judiciary bailiffs which refer to the government officials who do their responsibilities in the public prosecutors’ office and courts. The bailiffs whether general or special are under supervision and education by the judiciary officials. and the chief supervisor is the public prosecutor. and the crimes of the bailiffs can in 3 months to 1 year dismissal from governmental services. The institution of judiciary bailiffs, as one of the institutions affiliated with the prosecutors’ office, presents one of the most important responsibilities for the realization of criminal justice. and this responsibility is very sensitive and significant because it plays a role in the education of the society as well as threatening of the criminals and finally being detained and the protection of the rights of citizens. Since freedoms of people are of importance, it is vital to boost this institution by the officials.
