از گذشته هاي دور نقد و نگارش رديه برضد عارفان مسلمان جريان داشته است. اتهام هاي وارده، عمدتا معطوف به سه محور شريعت گريزي، عقل و علم ستيزي بوده است. بر اساس دو محور اخير به‌ويژه محور سوم – علم ستيزي كه مسئله اين پژوهش است، عارفان مسلمان عامل ركود و بلكه انحطاط تمدن اسلامي قلمداد شده اند. اين پژوهش مي كوشد از خلال گزاره هاي تاريخي، منابع و ميراث مكتوب عرفان، حقيقت امر را تبيين و مورد تحليل قرار دهد. مروري بر گزارش هاي دقيق تاريخي معطوف به مسئله پژوهش، از يك سو، نشان از خدمات ارزنده اين جريان در سه ساحت دانشمندان و مولفين، رويكردهاي علمي اخلاقي و درنهايت كاركردهاي علمي تمدني آن دارد، حقيقتي كه نه فقط در حلقه هاي خرد و كلان آموزشي خانقاه ها،‌بلكه در نهان بي نهايت طلب عارفان بلندآوازه در گستره تاريخ عرفان اسلامي متجلي شده وميراثي فاخر را به وديعت نهاده است. چنان كه ويژگي قرين بودن دانش در عرفان با اخلاق وعلم با معنويت، ضمن مانا كردن كارنامه علمي آنان از سوي ديگر، الگوي دانش در طراز تمدن اسلامي را به ظهور رسانده است.

Criticism and writing of denials against Muslim mystics have been going on since ancient times. The accusations were mainly focused on the three axes of apostasy, reason and anti-science. According to the last two axes, especially the third axis - anti-science which is the subject of this research, Muslim mystics have been considered as the cause of stagnation and even the decline of Islamic civilization. This research tries to explain and analyze the truth of the matter through historical propositions, sources and written heritage of mysticism. A review of accurate historical reports focusing on research, on the one hand, shows the valuable services of this movement in three areas of scientists and authors, scientific-ethical approaches and finally its scientific-civilizational functions, a fact that not only in micro and macro educational circles Monasteries, but in the secret of the infinite desire of famous mystics, has been manifested in the history of Islamic mysticism and has bequeathed a glorious heritage. As the characteristic of combining knowledge in mysticism with morality and science with spirituality, while maintaining their scientific record on the other hand, the pattern of knowledge in the style of Islamic civilization has emerged
