منجمان از حركت سيارات و قرار گرفتن مدار آن‌ها در كمربند آسماني پيشگويي‌هايي انجام داده‌اند و اين پيشگويي را بر مبناي علم يا فن احكام نجوم استدلال مي كرده‌اند. در تعريف اين صنعت گفته اند كه ، شناخت كيفيت استدلال از گردش افلاك و مطالعه برج‌ها و حركت ستارگان است، بر آنچه در زير فلك قمر پيدا خواهد شد، پيش از پيدا شدن آن. اين دانش سابقه‌اي بسيار ديرين در حوزه‌ي دانش بشري دارد. پيشينه‌ي آن به بابليان باستان و سپس به يونانيان باز مي‌گردد كه در بسط و گسترش آن نقش به سزايي ايفا كردند. دانش احكام نجوم كه در ابتدا در انحصار ستاره‌شناسان و رياضي‌دانان بود كم‌كم به حوزه‌ي علوم ديگر نيز بسط يافت به گونه‌اي كه؛ حتي پزشكان در بعضي از ادوار براي درمان بيماران خود دست به دامان دانش نجوم مي شدند. شاعران نيز از اين دانش غافل نبودند و در دوره‌هاي آغازين شعر فارسي تا سده‌هاي هفت و هشت در سروده‌هاي خويش از آن بهره بردند و به خلق مضامين پرداختند تا نسبت به شعراي ديگر اظهار فخر نمايند. احكام مربوط به منطقة‌البروج يا احكام مربوط به يكايك برج هاي دوازدگانه و يا ستارگان مشهور در هر يك از برج ها، در شعر سنايي، جلوه‌اي خاص دارد كه اين معاني را در ذيل عنوان هاي گوناگون مورد بررسي و مطالعه قرار مي‌دهيم.

The rulings related to the zodiac or the rulings related to each of the twelve towers or the famous stars in each of the towers, in the Sanaei court, have a special effect that we these meanings examined and studied under various headings as follows.
