مويليحي از ادباي اصلاح گرا و روشنفكري صميمي و متعهد بود كه تمام تلاش خود را براي اصلاح اخلاق جامعه به كار بست. شاگردي سيدجمال و محمد عبده وي را در جرگه آزادي خواهان عصر قرار داد. آراء اصلاحگرانه آنان بر او اثر گذاشت و ازآنجاكه احساس وطن دوستي نزد متفكران اصلاح طلب فرعي بر احساس ديني بود، بر خود لازم مي ديد كه به منظور اصلاح جامعه، كتابي بنگارد كه مسائل اجتماعي و فرهنگي روز را بيان كند؛ آينه صادق عصرش باشد و جامعه با ديدن خود در اين آينه، به اصلاح خويش بپردازد. اين مقاله به بررسي آسيب هاي اجتماعي، ديني و فرهنگي كشور مصر كه در اثر مشهور مويليحي، حديث عيسي بن هشام جلوه نموده، مي پردازد. اين كتاب از اوضاع اجتماعي و فرهنگي آن زمان پرده برمي دارد و نشان مي دهد كه مردم آن روزگار چگونه مفتون تمدن غربي شده و كوكورانه به آن روي آوردند. آسيب هاي اجتماعي و فرهنگي كشور مصر كه در اين اثر به آن ها پرداخته شده، عبارت است از: بي كفايتي، عدم احساس مسئوليت و سوء نظارت كارگزاران حكومت و دولتمردان، فساد نظام قضايي، عدم اجراي صحيح قانون مجازات، ثروت اندوزي و رفاه طلبي، شهرت طلبي، اسراف و تبذير و غرب زدگي با جلوه هاي مختلف.

Al Muwailihi was a genial and committed reformist and intellectual who devoted all his efforts to reform the ethics of society. A student of Seyed Jamal and Mohammed Abdeh, he was among the advocates of liberty in his era. Their reformist ideas influenced him, and since patriotic sentiment among the reformist thinkers was a subset of religious sentiment, he felt the need to write a book to describe the social and cultural issues of the day to emphasize the need for reformation. This article examines the social, religious, and cultural traits of the Egyptian nation, portrayed in Hadith Isa Ibn Hisham by Al Muwailihi. This book shows how the people of that time became fascinated with and blinded to Western civilization. The social and cultural harms that Egypt has dealt with in this work include incapability, lack of responsibility, and oversight by government and government officials, corruption in the judiciary system, inadequate enforcement of the law, greed and avarice, thirst for popularity, extravagance and westernization in different aspects of life.
