alc has been well known and used for many years as an additive flux for stoneware and porcelain stoneware tiles. Creating a eutectic with sodium and potash feldspars improves the fusibility of porcelain stoneware compositions as well as the stain resistance of polished porcelain stoneware tiles, because of the lower internal porosity which also results in a higher fired strength. However, some producers – including ceramic slab producers – have not considered using it extensively because the body compositions must be fine-tuned with the right talc to achieve the full benefits and because the small
amount required (<2%) must be dosed accurately at an industrial level.
