The Role of Identity in Formation of the Al-Houthi Movement in Yemen

از زمان كودتاي 1962در يمن، شيعيان زيديه علي ­رغم دارا بودن مولفه­ هاي جمعيتي، جغرافيايي، تاريخي و مذهبي، به گونه ­اي خاص تحت انزواي حكومت مركزي قرارگرفته و نهايت سهم و نقش قابل توجهي در ساختار سپاسي يمن نداشته ­اند؛ بلكه در معرض نابودي هويتي نيز بوده ­اند. در اين ميان جنبش الحوثي به عنوان يك جنبش هويت­ گرا تلاش نموده تا با «توليد مقاومت» در برابر فشارهاي ناشي از سركوب، سلطه و در حاشيه قرارگيري شيعيان زيدي از سوي دولت مركزي، با تكيه بر مباني هويتي زيديه و انجام فعاليت­ هاي اجتماعي، سياسي و در نهايت نظامي، از طريق «هويت مقاومت» به نقش آفريني سياسي مبادرت نموده و درصدد احياي هويت زيديان برآيد. اين مقاله در صدد است با الگو گيري از رهيافت سازه­ انگاري در توجه به متغير هويت، نقش هويت در شكل گيري جنبش الحوثي در يمن را واكاوي نمايد. بنابراين پرسش اصلي مقاله اين است كه هويت در شكل گيري جنبش الحوثي چه نقشي ايفا كرده است؟ فرضيه بحث اينگونه مطرح مي ­شود كه قدرت گيري جنبش الحوثي و اختلاف و درگيري آنها با دولت مركزي يمن، نه صرفا قابل تقليل به عوامل خارجي و منبعث از منازعات جاري در سطح منطقه، بلكه داراي ريشه و منشا داخلي، جهت بازيابي هويت و احيا حقوق از دست رفته شيعيان زيدي بوده و بر مباني تاريخي، مذهبي و اعتقادي شيعيان زيديه استوار است.

Since the 1962 coup in Yemen, Zaydi Shiites, in spite of their demographic, geographical, historical and religious significance, have been isolated by the central government. Not only they have not played a significant role in Yemen’s political structure, but also they have been subjected to identity destruction. In the meantime, the Al-Houthi as an identity movement attempted to “produce resistance” viaa- vis the pressures arising from oppression, domination and marginalization of the Zaydi Shiites at the hand of the central government. Relying on Zaydieh’s identity foundations and pursuing social, political, and military activities, they have acted politically through the “Resistance Identity” and seek to revive the Zaydi identity. This article seeks to analyze the role of identity in the formation of the Al-Houthi movement in Yemen by drawing upon a constructivist approach. So, the main question of the paper is: what role did identity play in the formation of the Houthi movement? The hypothesis of the paper is that empowerment of the Al-Houthi movement and their conflict with the Yemeni central government are not reducible to external factors and ongoing conflicts at the regional level but it has an internal origin to restore the identity and lost rights of the Zaydi Shiites. It is based on the historical, religious and belief bases of the Zaydi Shiites.
