كتاب گران‌سنگ نهج‌البلاغه مشتمل بر تعداد قابل‌ملاحظه‌اي از عبارت­هاي دال بر مفهوم بيهوده­كاري است كه امام علي(ع) براي ترسيم ميزان درجه عبث بودن يك كار، القاي دور بودن خود از آن امور و در راستاي به تصوير كشيدن ميزان نزديكي و خوگرفتن جبهه مقابل به آنها، از آن تعابير بهره برده كه با توجه به جنبه اقناعي آن تعابير، شناسايي، استخراج و تحليل آنها بسيار پراهميت مي­نمايد و نقش محوري در دريافت مفاهيم موردنظر امير سخن دارد. در پرتو اهميت مسأله، پژوهش حاضر با اتخاذ رويكرد كيفي و روش توصيفي- تحليلي مي­ كوشد ضمن شناساييِ تعابير دال بر بيهوده ­كاري و بيهوده­ كاراني كه در نهج‌البلاغه حضور يافتند، به اين موضوع بپردازد كه در خطبه ­ها و نامه ­هاي نهج‌البلاغه، عمل مورد بحث، با چه استراتژي­اي مفهوم ­سازي شده، چه شخص يا اشخاصي كارشان، نمود بيهودگي و بيهوده ­كاري است و چه تصويري از آنان ارائه‌شده و عموماً ريشه آن امور در چيست. بررسي­ نشان از آن دارد كه حضرت كوشيده در راستاي اصلاح امور و روشنگري، با كاربست تشبيه و عيني ­سازي امور موردنظر، مخاطبان بيهوده­ گرا را متوجه گژفهمي­ شان نمايد و در همان حال با تصويرسازي بي­بديل، مانايي و ماندگاري مفهوم سخن خود را در ذهن مخاطب بالا ببرد. ديگر اينكه بحث زمامداري و خلافت، محور بيشتر سخنان مشتمل بر بيهودگي و بيهوده­ كاري بوده است.
