تصور مواجهه با ديگري، اغلب تصوري غريب است. ما هر اندازه هم كه كنجكاو و مايل به كشف جهانهاي ديگر بوده و از تمناي چنين كشفي بر سر ذوق باشيم، اما نميتوانيم بر تمامي اضطرابها، ترديدها و گاه حتي ترسهاي خويش فائق آئيم. اين ترسها در سطحي كلان، البته ممكن است بهزودي ما را در لاك دفاعي يا حتي حالت تهاجمي قرار دهد و هيچ كم نيستند شواهدي در درازاي تاريخ كه مؤيد چنين حالتهايي است. با اين همه، با فرضِ ناگزير ارتباطات ميان فرهنگي در روزگار كنوني، ميتوان اين ارتباطات را چونان جرياني از تعديل شخصيت و هويتهاي انساني-اجتماعي به شمار آورده و از اين رو، بر گسترش آن در يك چارچوبِ فراگير پاي فشرد. بنابراين، مقالة حاضر مبتنيبر چنين نگاهي و بر اساس نوعي روششناسي تفسيري، بهدنبال فهم چگونگي اين امر بوده است. در اين راستا، با بهره گيري از فيلم سينمايي «هفت سال در تبت» كه بر پاية داستاني واقعي ساخته شده است، نشان داده ايم كه ارتباطات ميانفرهنگي جداي از امكان شكوفايي هويت هاي چندوجهي، زمينة تعديل خود شخص در نسبت با خودش و نيز، تعديل نگاه او به ديگران را فراهم ميسازد. اين امر مراتب گوناگوني داشته و در صورتهاي مختلفي تجلي مييابد كه در اين مقاله به آن پرداخته خواهد شد.

The imagination of encountering others is often a strange one. As much as we are curious and eager to explore and discover other worlds, and as much as we rejoice over the desire for this discovery, we cannot overcome all our anxieties, doubts, and sometimes even fears. These fears may put us in a defensive or offensive position on a macro level, and there are great pieces of evidence for these positions throughout history. However, assuming that intercultural communications are inevitable today, these communications can be considered as a process of modifying individual and social personality and identity; thus, it can be expanded to an inclusive framework. Therefore, this article is based on such a view. This article has sought to understand how this is done, using a kind of interpretive methodology. In this regard, using the film "Seven Years in Tibet," which is based on a real story, we have shown that intercultural communication, apart from the possibility of the development of multiple identities, also allows the person to modify one's view of oneself and others. This issue, of course, has different levels and appears in different forms, which will be discussed in this article.
