Optimal solution of a single machine scheduling problem with the option of batch outsourcing

برون‌سپاري يك راهكار متداول در صنعت و كسب‌وكار است كه مي‌تواند در ارتقاء عملكرد يك بنگاه و جبران كاستي‌هاي آن تأثير به سزايي داشته باشد. اين راهكار مي‌تواند ابعاد مختلفي از مسائل مديريتي يك سازمان را تحت تأثير قرار دهد. در حوزه زمان‌بندي به‌عنوان يكي از زيرشاخه‌هاي مديريت عمليات نيز هنگامي‌كه از پيمانكاران جهت انجام كارها در طول زمان استفاده مي‌شود، بحث برون‌سپاري قابل‌طرح است. بر اين اساس، در اين تحقيق يك مسئله زمان‌بندي تك ماشين بررسي مي‌شود كه در آن امكان برون‌سپاري بخشي از كارها در قالب يك دسته به يك پيمانكار وجود دارد. فرض شده كه زمان و هزينه برون‌سپاري يك كار متناسب بازمان عمليات آن كار در كارگاه است. همچنين يك‌زمان و يك هزينه ثابت لجستيكي نيز براي دسته برون‌سپاري لحاظ شده است. تابع هدف مسئله كمينه‌سازي حاصل جمع مجموع زمان تكميل كارها و مجموع هزينه‌هاي برون‌سپاري است. روش‌شناسي پژوهش: براي حل مسئله، تعدادي از ويژگي‌هاي بهينگي جواب مسئله باهدف به دست آوردن جواب بهينه مسئله در يك لم و يك قضيه به اثبات مي‌رسد. در انتهاي مقاله نيز تعدادي آزمايش محاسباتي براي ارزيابي ميزان اثرگذاري سياست برون‌سپاري در مسئله مطالعه شده ارائه مي‌شود. يافته ها: بر اساس روش حل توسعه داده‌شده، ساختار جواب بهينه به‌صورت كامل مشخص مي‌شود كه با استفاده از آن، جواب بهينه از بين تعداد محدودي گزينه با محاسبات ساده‌اي تعيين مي‌گردد. همچنين نتايج محاسباتي همان‌گونه كه انتظار مي‌رفت مؤيد امكان اثرگذاري قابل‌توجه برون‌سپاري در كاهش مقدار تابع هدف مسئله است. اصالت/ارزش‌افزوده علمي: در اين مقاله يك مسئله كاربردي جديد در حوزه زمان‌بندي با امكان برون‌سپاري طرح‌شده و با تحليل‌هاي دقيق رياضي جواب بهينه آن مشخص مي‌شود. همچنين با استفاده از آزمايش‌هاي محاسباتي امكان اثربخشي بالاي سياست برون‌سپاري در مسئله بررسي‌شده نشان داده مي‌شود.

Outsourcing is a prevalent strategy in the industry and business, which can enhance the performance of a company and rectify its constraints. This strategy can be integrated into various managerial aspects of a company, particularly the scheduling subject. In this paper, a single machine scheduling problem is investigated in which a set of jobs can be outsourced in a batch to a single subcontractor. It is supposed that the outsourcing time and cost of a job are proportional to its in-house processing time. In addition, a fixed logistics time and cost are also considered for the outsourcing batch. Moreover, the problem objective is to minimize the sum of the total completion time of the jobs and the total outsourcing cost. Methodology: To solve the problem, a set of optimal properties of the problem solution are proven via a lemma and a theorem to determine the optimal solution of the problem. Moreover, some computational experiments are also conducted at the end of the paper to examine the effect of the outsourcing strategy in the addressed problem. Findings: By the developed solution approach, the structure of the optimal solution is determined, using which the optimal solution of the problem can be chosen among a limited set of candidate solutions via some simple computations. Moreover, the computational results indicate the remarkable possible role of outsourcing in decreasing the value of the objective function of the problem. Originality/Value: In this paper, a new practical problem in the research area of scheduling with outsourcing is defined and its optimal solution is determined via a detailed analysis. Furthermore, using computational experiments it is shown that the outsourcing strategy can have a great role to attain the problem objectives.
