ستاره‌شناسان در دوره‌هاي متأخر نجوم اسلامي بيشتر تحت تأثير فلسفه طبيعي ابن‌سينا قرار داشند. بنابراين بر روي استفاده از مباني فلسفه طبيعي در تئوري‌هاي نجومي متمركز شدند و همين موضوع باعث نقد به مسأله معدل‌المسير بطلميوس و ابداع مدل‌هاي جايگزين شد. ريشه ابداع اين مدل‌ها را بايد در علاقه مسلمانان به قائل‌شدن طبيعت مادي براي افلاك و در نتيجه جست‌وجوي علل پديده‌ها در مباني فلسفي ديد. اين درحالي ‌است كه بطلميوس از مدل‌هاي خود تنها براي تبيين جهان بهره مي‌برد و ظاهراَ حداقل در مجسطي به‌دنبال يافتن علل حركات نبود. اعتقادات فلسفي ستاره‌شناسان درخصوص حركت افلاك را در مباحث ديگري چون جنس افلاك، بساطت آنها و نوع حركات آنها مي‌توان ملاحظه كرد كه همگي ريشه درتلاش براي يافتن علل حركات سيارات و افلاك دارد. علاءالدين علي قوشچي دانشمندي است كه در انتهاي دوره درخشش نجوم اسلامي سعي در نوعي بازگشت به تبيين پديدارها به‌جاي جست‌‌وجو در علل مبتني بر فلسفه طبيعي دارد. دليل اين موضوع را بايد در بي‌اعتمادي به مباني فلسفي دانست كه خود ريشه در تجربيات و نگرش‌هاي خاص قوشچي دارد كه در اين مقاله به آنها پرداخته خواهد شد.

Astronomers' philosophical beliefs about the motion of the spheres can be seen in other topics, such as the material of the spheres, their simplicity, and the type of motion they all have. These views are due to their interest in finding the cause of the planets' motion. Ali Qushji lived in the last years of the astronomical period in Islamic civilization. He wanted to save the phenomena instead of finding the reasons for what happened. Because he was distrustful of astronomical theories. This article will address Ghoshchi's astronomical views of cosmology.
