Intrinsic Value of Childbearing from a Moral Perspective

فرزندآوري يكي از مؤلفه‌هاي مهم علم جمعيت است و از جمله موضوعاتي است كه در جوامع مختلف اهميت دارد. اكثر كشورهاي جهان به نوعي در حالت عدم تعادل جمعيتي قرار دارند و با چالش‌هاي ناشي از آن مواجهند. اين مسئله سبب مي‌‌شود كه كشورهاي با روند نزولي رشد جمعيت، به تدريج با سالخوردگي جمعيت و چالش‌هاي ناشي از آن مواجه شوند. فرزندآوري از جهات مختلف فقهي، حقوقي، اقتصادي، اجتماعي و اخلاقي قابل بررسي است. در ايران به مسئلۀ فرزندآوري كمتر با رويكرد اخلاقي پرداخته شده است، اما در غرب اين موضوع با رويكردهاي مختلف اخلاق هنجاري مانند غايت‌گرايي، وظيفه‌گرايي و فضيلت‌گرايي بررسي شده است. از اين ميان، وظيفه‌گرايان _ برمبناي اصل اداي وظيفه _ استدلال‌هاي قابل توجهي بر اخلاقي بودن فرزندآوري ارائه كرده‌اند، ازجمله استدلال از طريق ارزشِ ذاتي فرزندآوري كه تقرير‌هاي مختلفي از آن ارائه شده است. در اين مقاله به بررسي و نقد استدلال ارزشِ ذاتي فرزندآوري با تقريرهاي گوناگون آن پرداخته مي‌‌شود.

Childbearing may be regarded as a significant constituent of demography as well as an important issue in different societies. The population of the majority of countries in the world is not balanced, and these countries are faced with challenges which such imbalance creates. This will lead countries with a decreasing trend of population growth to encounter the problem of population aging and difficulties arising from it. Childbearing can be explored with respect to jurisprudence, law, economics, and sociology. The problem of childbearing has not often been morally addressed in Iran; but in the West it has been examined by philosophers through applying different moral approaches such as consequentialism, deontology, and virtue theory. Deontology has advanced remarkable arguments for childbearing to be moral based on the principle of discharging duties, including the argument from the intrinsic value of childbearing. In view of the fact that a variety of accounts have been provided for this argument, we shall assess and criticize it in our article.
