انسان چگونه موجودي است؟آيا بشر، طبع نيك سرشت دارد و يا بد سرشت هست؟در ميان علما دو ديدگاه كلي حاكم است و جاحظ بر بدسرشت بودن اعتقاد دارد و بر اين مبنا ،معتقد است كه انسان با ذات خود، بدون كمك و تمسك به شريعت نمي تواند، زندگي خود را سامان دهد،چون بر مبناي شرارت طبيعي انسان، هر فردي دنبال جلب حد اكثر منافع براي خود هست و اين مساله موجب ف ظهور نزاع ها و كشمكش ها در جوامع بشري مي شود، از اين ظهور وجود امام به معناي عام ،جهت هدايت جامعه لازم و ضروري هست و ارسال رسل نيز بر همين مبنا بوده و در حضرت حتمي مرتبت به پايان رسيده است و پس از او نيز امام و امامت تداوم داشته و جانشين بلافصل آن حضرت بايد حضرت علي عليه السلام مي شد،چرا كه او اشبه الناس به پيامبر بوده و امام نيز بايد ويژگي هاي پيامبر را داشته باشد.وي براساس همين مبنا امامان جامعه يكي از برجستگان اجتماع دانسته ، چرا همو بايد ، جوامع بشري را به سوي كمال مادي و معنوي سوق دهد.به باور جاحظ ويژگي هاي برجسته مي تواند امام را هادي و راهبر جامعه بنمايد و در انتخاب امام براي جامعه لازم و ضروري هست كه به اين اوصاف توجه شود و امام نير هموار اين برجستگي ها را داشته باشد.
