استم كه مخفف علوم، فناوري، مهندسي و رياضيات است رويكردي بين رشته‌اي و كاربردي است كه بر پايه آن، تلاش مي‌شود به جاي آموزش چهار رشته به عنوان موضوعات جداگانه و گسسته، رشته‌هاي يادشده، در راستاي حل مسائل روزمره، بطوريكپارچه به دانش آموزان و دانشجويان تدريس شود. اين روش نوين تدريس از سوي كشورهاي غربي و پيشرفته با استقبال روبرو شده است و گرايش به پياده‌سازي آن روزافزون است. با اين حال، رويكردها به آموزش استم يكسان نيست و هنوز، چارچوب مشخصي براي آموزش استم تدوين نشده است. در اين مقاله ابتدا به شرح رويكرد استم پرداخته ايم و طيف روش‌هاي آموزشي بر پايه استم را شرح داده ايم. سپس با توجه به شرايط كنوني آموزش و پرورش و سنجش در ايران، الزامات پياده‌سازي رويكرد استم در ايران بحث و بررسي شده است.
