مسألة ضرورت از مهم‌ترين مباحث منطق و فلسفه است كه تبيين صحيح مفهوم آن نقش بسزايي در حل بسياري از مسائل فلسفي دارد. در فلسفة تحليلي و پس از انقلاب كپرنيكي كانت، ضرورت عمدتاً به مفهومي زبان شناختي مرتبط با گزاره ها تحويل مي شد كه وراي زبان، جايگاهي براي آن وجود نداشت. كريپكي با نقد نظريات سنتي در باب مفهوم ضرورت، و ارائة نظريات جديد در اين خصوص معتقد شد كه برخي از انحاء ضرورت (مانند ضرورت متافيزيكي) اموري فرازباني و فراذهني هستند. در اين مقاله مفهوم ضرورت از ديدگاه كريپكي با آراي علامة طباطبايي در اين خصوص مقايسه و تطبيق داده خواهد شد. كريپكي و علامة طباطبايي هر دو، مفهوم ضرورت را مفهومي متافيزيكي و فلسفي مي دانند و معتقد به بديهي بودن مفهوم ضرورت مي‌باشند، اما در تعيين مصاديق و انواع ضرورت متافيزيكي آراي متفاوتي دارند. كريپكي ضرورت متافيزيكي را تنها در موارد محدودي مانند ضرورت موجود در گزاره هاي اين همان و گزاره هاي مشتمل بر اوصاف ذاتي صادق مي داند، اما دايرة شمول ضرورت متافيزيكي در آراي جناب علامة طباطبايي تمام موجودات عالم را در بر مي گيرد.
