A Critique of Keith Maslin's Arguments Based on Denial of Possibility of Soul's Incorporeity

يكي از كتب مهمي كه از فلاسفه ذهن در ايران ترجمه شده، «درآمدي بر فلسفه ذهن» اثر كيت مسلين است. در قسمتي از اين كتاب چهار دليل آورده شده كه سعي در نفي امكان ادله تجرد نفس دارد. فلاسفه اسلامي امكان تجرد نفس را مفروغ‌عنه دانسته و سعي در اثبات آن داشته‌اند. اين ادله يك قدم عقب‌تر مي‌آيد و سعي مي‌كند كه امكان تجرد نفس را هم منكر شود و آن را داراي توالي فاسد غيرقابل قبولي بداند تا از اصل قبول تجرد نفس را نامعقول بشمارد. اين مقاله ضمن بيان چهار دليل كتاب كيت مسلين، سعي در نقد آنها و اثبات امكان تجرد نفس را به روشي عقلي دارد. اين مقاله اثبات مي‌كند ذهن داشتن همه ‌يا هيچ نيست، با قبول تجرد نفس هنوز مغز كاركرد دارد، مغالطه آدمك هم پيش نمي‌آيد و شمارش نفوس هم هنوز ممكن است.

One of the important books written by philosophers of mind and translated in Iran is Keith Maslin's An Introduction to the Philosophy of Mind. Somewhere in the book, four reasons have been presented for negating the possibility of arguments for incorporeity of the soul. The Islamic philosophers have considered the incorporeity of the soul as a resolved issue and tried to prove it. These arguments go back one step and attempt to deny the possibility of the soul's incorporeity, considering it as having a corrupt unacceptable sequence and regarding the acceptance of the soul's incorporeity irrational. This article states four reasons for Keith Maslin's book and tries to criticize them to prove the possibility of the soul's incorporeity in a rational way. It proves the mind is not all or nothing; by accepting the soul's incorporeity, the brain still functions, there would be no problem of the idiot fallacy, and it would be possible to enumerate the souls.
