COMPARISON OF THE RATE OF CESAREAN OPERATIONS IN TWO GROUPS ACCORDING TO THE STAGE OF LABOR AT THE TIME OF ADMISSION

In recent years, the rate of c/s operations has increased because of several reasons. In this prospective analytic study, we compared the rate of cis in two groups . Group I included 100 patients who were admitted during the latent phase in labor room while Group II included 200 patients admitted during the active phase in labor room. The first line of approach for the two groups was vaginal delivery and those patients in whom the first line of approach was c/s were excluded from this study . The rate of c/s in group I was 23%) ( n: 100) , 9.66 el =95% OR = from 3.55 to 64.27 .The most frequent cause for performing c/s in group I was CPD & dystocia (52%) . Other causes were fetal distress & meconium staining (43.3%).ln group 11, the rate of c/s was 3% and the most important reason was fetal distress for abruptio placenta . According to ACOG (Amniotic Fluid Meconium Staining) criteria, diagnosis of dystocia must be done in the active phase, but the results of this investigation showed that the diagnosis of CPD & dystocia was done mostly in the latent phase, because of which ,c/s was performed. The second leading cause of cls in this investigation was fetal distress & A.F.M.S (Amniotic Fulid Meconium Staining) .Meconium alone should not be an indication for c/s and an operation should be considered only if an abnormal F.H.R . is also present. From the results of this study it is concluded that more c/s operations are performed in women admitted during the latent phase of labor.
