MULTIPLE WEDGE OSTEOTOMY OF TIBIA FOR CORRECTION OF DEFORMITY IN OSTEOGENESIS IMPERFECTA

Osteogenesis imperfecta is a connective tissue disorder. The defect is due to the failure of maturation of collagen tissue. Its presentation in the musculoskeletal system is diffuse osteoporosis and spontaneous fractures and deformities of the bones. The disease has no specific treatment but orthopaedic procedures have been recommended for prevention or correction of fractures and deformities of the limbs. An 18 year old male with osteogenesis imperfecta who had a previous severe deformity of the left leg referred to us with a new fracture of the left tibia following a fall. Surgical treatment with multiple wedge resectional osteotomies of tibia was done for correction of the deformity and fracture. Fracture and osteotomy sites healed after 4 months without any complications.
