Influence of Age, Causes and Cycle Number on Pregnancy Rate with Ovarian Hyper stimulation and Intrauterine Insemination

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) with partnerʹs spermatozoa is a usual treatment in many clinics for patients with ovulatory disorders, male, cervical factor, endometriosis or unexplained infertility. Despite the wide use of IUI, there are limited data, on the effect of patient age, cause of infertility and the number of treatment cycles on cycle outcomes. A total of 354 patients were undergoing IUI after using clomiphen + HMG or only HMG for controlled ovarian hyper stimulation since June 2000 up to Feb 2001. The results of this study demonstrate a decline in pregnancy rate with increasing the age of patient. However there is no significant difference between different ages in pregnancy rate. The most pregnancy rate according to the cause of infertility was observed in Endometriosis and ovulatory factor respectively and the cervical factor had the lowest rate. Also, this study revealed that the prognosis is good for up to 3 treatment cycles for most diagnostic groups specially in patients with ovulatory disorder.
