Important indications of genetic roles in diseases together with recent advent of biotechnology, increases the value of molecular studies related to disease etiology.
DNA-Microarry, as a new biotechnology method for the study of gene expression, has already found significant place in medical researches. With the ultimate goals of providing more accurate methods in prognosis, prevention, and treatment, this technology is used widely for understanding the underlying genetic structure of different aspects of diseases. Applications of DNA-Microarrys in measuring expression levels of thousands of genes at once and their mutual or overall interactions produce a high volume of valuable data. Thus, to understand the underlying mechanisms of such high amount of information, the role of statistical methodology and analyses are clearly valuable in the design, summary, and accurate interpretation of research studies results. In the present study, we applied two of more commonly used multivariate statistical techniques, namely classification and clustering, in the analysis of classification and clustering of acute leukemia on a data set published by Golub et al (1999).
