Rural Poverty and its intensifying interaction with the degradation of environment is one of the main challenges facing the developing countries to achieve sustainable development. This research was conducted in documentary method and intended to illuminate various dimensions of the problem reviewing the theories and views present in the context and studying certain experiences and to achieve an appropriate, practice to deal with the problem. Looking at the available literature in this respect indicates that the traditional views consider the rural poverty as an intensifying factor in the environmental degradation and in return the unfavourable environmental conditions as an acute poverty factor. Although tile more recent theories do not reject the whole issue, they argue that. the type of poverty and the type of environmental degradation have a great impact. on the concerned relation. On the contrary, certain evidence and studies suggest that improving the poverty and increasing the wealth among rural households and the consequent application of technological potentials have caused increasing environmental degradation. It seems, therefore, the dimensions of the issue are more complicated and involve- a systemic and holistic treatment; and in the analysis of such a relation, various social, economic, administrative, agricultural, ... issues should he taken into account.
