Contribution of Cooperatives in Initiating Income-generating Activities and Rural Women Employment

This research was undertaken to assess the performance of the Jajim Wearing cooperative called Hezar-Gol in the Room village of the Qaʹen county, the Khorasan province, aiming at the study of the cooperative contribution in generating income and employment for the rural women, as well as the study of its strenghths, weaknesses, constraints, and opportunities, using the participatory appraisal method. In the appraisal process of the Hezar-Gol production cooperative, various participatory methods were applied including social mapping, modelling, participation sharing, joint survey, trend analysis, etc.. According to the results produced, the Hezar-Gol cooperative has a favourable position in terms of the socio-economic and cultural settings, and, for the most part, has succeeded in the production structures, the employment organization, and the income-generation.
