Whenever good quality water is scarce, water of "marginal quality" will have to be considered for using in agriculture. Municipal wastewater is marginal quality water and using of this for irrigation can be an important considration when its disposal is being planned in arid and semi-arid regions. In this study, secondary municipal effluent was used for irrigation of potato and tomato. This effluent is using activated sludge process to treat the municipal wastewater. For these crops, five different irrigation tratments were desingned with three repetitions and these tratments were as follows: Ti: Furrow irrigation with drinking water network, T2: surface drip irrigation (DI) with effluent, T3: Sub surface drip irrigation (SDI) in 15 cm depth with effluent, T5: Furrow irrigation with effluent. Crop water requirement was determined by ET-HS model. Also in this study, mircobiological characteristics crops have been analyzed. Results Show that the drip irrigation filter caused 51% BOD5, 44% TSS, 52% N-NO3, 84% N-NH4, 81% TN, 94% Faecal coliforms and 57% Nematodes removal efficiency in this condition. Also, the results of this study indicated that application of DI and SDI could be control environmental contamination and to compare the surface irrigation had decreased the pollution problems in the soil. Additionally, with regard to health, in SDI, minimum contact was generated between the effluent and the workers or the plant parts above the soil. But the microbiological test indicated that between T2 to T5, in potato T2 and in tomato T3 and T4 had better mircobiological yieldʹs quality.
