An experiment was conducted with commercial laying hens (Hy-Line) in order to study the effects of different levels of energy and protein in diets on the laying performance , egg and egg shell quality . The factorial experiment (3x4) in a completely randomized design (CRD) used with three levels of metabolizable energy (MEN) (2800, 2900 , 3000 Kcal/Kg) and four levels of crude protein (CP) (13.5 , 15 , 16.5 ,18 %) . 252 laying hens in 48 WK of age with similar body weight and egg production randomizly were allocated into 12 experimental groups, with seven replications (3 hens/group) . Effects of diets were studied on the following traits for 12 weeks: daily feed intake, feed conversion, egg production, egg shell thickness and weight, egg weight, Egg mass, Haugh Unit, egg specific gravity and feed intake expense for 1 Kg egg production. Different levels of MEN of diets had no significant effect on the all traits except feed intake expense (p< 0.01) . Means comparison showed egg production and egg shell thickness were affected by different levels of MEN. Greatest egg production obtained by 2800 Kcal/Kg MEN. Daily feed intake reduced with increase level of MEN. Different levels of CP of diets had significant effect on egg production (p< 0.05), egg mass (p< 0.01), feed conversion, egg shell weight and egg specific gravity(p< 0.05). Egg production, egg weight, feed conversion and feed intake expense were better with %l5 CP and 2800 Kcal/Kg ME N.
