Increasing consumption of medicinal plants need to extension and suitable management of medicinal plant cultivation. Wild-growing species are one of the valuable genetic resources of each country and detailed study of tbem in respect to quality and quantity of active substances would he very neccessary. St.Johnʹs Wort is an important medicinal plant and there are three pharmaceutical products that originated from St. Jobnʹs Wort in Iran. With respect to the importance of St.Jobnʹs Wort in pharmaceutical industries we carried out the research on the plant. Seedling transplanted to the main site after sowing the seeds in the outdoor bed. After the flowering, physical characteristic sucb as plant height, number of flowering stem per plant , number of flowers per plant and dry herb yield of eacb plant were measured. Ln addition, methanolic extract of the samples analyzed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography Diode Array Detector for quantified the hypericin, pseudohypericin, hypcrforin, adhyperforin, chlorogenic and isochlorogenic acid content in Iraruan St.Johnʹs Wort. Our results sbow that except the number of flowers per plant (data not shown in Topas) all growth parameter in Lranian St.Johnʹs Wort were in the higber level than Topas cultivar in the same condition in Lran. HPLC-DAD cbromatogram analysis show that hyperforin and adhyperforin content of Iranian St.Johnʹs Wort were much higher (2-3 fold) than other reports ( 30.7 and 6.77 mg/g D. W. respectively ). However hypericin and pseudohypericin content of the samples (0.206 and 0.071 mg/g D. W. respectively) show low difference with the other reports. Chlorogenic acid content of Iranian St. Johnʹs Wort were significant in respect to "Togas" variety cultivated in the same condition (2.874 mg/g D. W.). Therefor Iranian St.Johnʹs Wort can be major source of crud material demand of pharmaceutical industries.
