Geography of brain drain: A study of it impact on information flow

This paper aims to study the impact of professional immigration (brain drain) on scholarly activities, technology, economics and information. Describes the phenomenon of brain drain as losing the scientific and technological information capital. The concept and a short history of brain drain in the world as well as in Iran are reviewed. Factors influencing the brain drain are described as economic problems, lack of relevant educational and research facilities, lack of relevant infrastructure for professional and scientific development, numerous crisis and lack of economic, social and political security. Discusses how brain drain reduces scholarly, technological and economic activities all of which lead into under-development and reduction of information production and consumption, diminishing the activities of libraries and information centers as well as less usage of foreign information databases.
