A CASE REPORT OF SUBMANDIBULAR AND SUBLINGUAL DUCTS CONNECTION IN A CADAVOR

Introduction: Submandibular salivary gland secret into oral cavity by submadihular duct and also it opens by a narrow orifice in the floor of the mouth on the summit of the sublingual papilla at the side of the frenulum of the tongue. Sublingual gland drain its secretion by 8 to 20 ducts. These ducts mostly open separately into the floor of the mouth on the summit of the sublingual fold. From anterior part of the gland sometimes a greater sublingual duct is formed which opens to or near to the submandibular duct. In this case we observed a large wall duct formation on the posterior part of the gland which joins to the one third ofposterior part of the submandibular duct. Materials & Methods: We dissect the infratemporl and submandibular and sublingual regions of the cadaver to see submandibular and sublingual glands and their ducts. Results and Discussion: Communication of the sublingual and submandibular ducts at the posterior part of the mouth and neighbouring lingual nerve is important in surgery of mouth, salivary glands and their ducts. Also it has to be considered in infection of the glands and sialography methods in radiology.
