The role of dialects in removing lexical ambiguities in old Dari Texts

The description of dialects not only helps record the speech that is lost in a not very distant future under the influence of the mass media, specially television, the emigration of villagers to major cities, specially Tehran, and the compulsory primary school education, but it helps remove lexical ambiguities found in certain old Dui texts. This is particularly true about Khorassan dialects as they are generally the continuation of the Persian spoken in the fourth, fifth and sixth centuries A. H. In this article, the writer compares some words belonging to Ghayeni dialect with their equivalents in some old Dui Persian texts, the Jahangiri dictionary and the Borhan Ghatʹ e, showing that there is not much difference between the words of the Ghayeni dialect and the words found in old Persian texts and these dictionaries, and that the differences are phonological, which naturally occur across dialects in the course of time.
