A Case Report of Laron Syndrome

Growth hormone insensitivity was first described by Laron and colleagues in 1966 in three siblings with hypoglycemia and other clinical and laboratory signs of growth hormone deficiency - but with abnormally high concentration of serum growth hormone. To date approximately 200 cases have been identified worldwide, the majority of which are reported from the Mediterranean region or from Ecuador. We report a case of Laron syndrome from Khorasan. This patient is a 4 year old boy who is the son of a first-degree relative couple with normal height. He presented with delayed growth and convulsion. Laboratory tests showed hypoglycemia, markedly elevated plasma hGH, low serum IGf - I with inadequate raising after exogenous hGH administration.
