Risperidone Induced Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome in Probably Lewy Body Dementia

Diffuse lewy body disease is the second cause of dementia after Alzheimerʹs disease. It is characterized by a progressive dementia, fluctuation of cognitive deficits, frequent visual hallucination, dilirium and hypersensitivity to neuroleptics and parkinsonian features. We report a 72 years woman patient in whom signs and symptoms consisted with neuroleptic malignant syndrome developed after 8 days of Resperidone therapy. Patient presented with fever, mental status changes rigidity and tremors. Her laboratory findings were significant for increased serum Cpk and Leukocytosis. Discontinuation of risperidone, in combination with a mild dopaminergic therapy and supportive care led to a complete recovery in one weak.
