Study of 109 fatal cases of opiate abuse referring to Tehran legal medicine organization

In this cross-sectional study the fatal cases of opiate abuse were analyzed by questionaire, interviewing with relatives, Autopsy, toxicologic and pathologic investigation. Among 2235 dead bodies referring to LMO during study period, 109 cases (4.8%) were due to opiate abuse from which 106 cases (97.24%), were male. The most common age period was 21-30 years (50.45%) most of victims (52.29%) were under graduate. In 56 cases (51.37%) the opiate were shown in urine and in 33 cases (30.27%) were found in blood and tissues. The most common pathologic finding was pulmorary edema (44.03%).
