Benefit - Cost Analysis of Pistachio Cultivation in the City of Neiriz

Farmers show a specific tendency toward pistachio cultivation in Neiriz area. Pistachio production for farming year (1997 - 98 ) had been 5000 tons. This is 95 precent of Fars pistachio production. So economic analysis of pistachio cultivation in this region is of paramount importance. The aim of this study was to prepare a guide for making production decisions, determination of potential return-cost as well as planning farm budget. In addition, pistachio cultivation analysis with benefit-cost method was assessed. The study sample consist of 180 producers selected by two stage cluster sampling method. Data were then collected by interviews during 1997-1998. Net present value method for economic analysis was selected for the study. The basic results showed that net present value with discount rate (18%) has been positive and equal to 985,986,862 Rls. The rate of return for this project of 100 Ha pistachio cultivation has been 25.6%, which as compared to the rate of return of 18% is a benefical project.
