A Study on Impacts of Mobarakeh Industrial Pole on Agricultural Development of the Region

One of the most commonly used patterns for regional development is creating industrial poles. This pattern is on the basis of Perrouxʹs Growth Pole Theory. According to him, growth does not appear everywhere and all at once. It appears in points or development poles and then spreads through diverse channels to the whole region. This idea was used in the fourth and fifth five year plans of Iran in pre-revolution era, and in Mobarakeh county in 1980ʹs by establishing an industrial complex. But the impacts of these industries on agricultural structure of the region were not considered in this plan. Thus during the last two decates, the industrial complex has had a considerable impact on agricultural structure of the region. In this paper it is tried to examine the positive and negative impacts of this industrial complex on agricultural status in Mobarakeh region. In this study the data were collected through 151 questionnaires, from 6 selected villages and were analyzed by using Factor Analysis, Mann-Whitney and Wilcoxon tests. It was shown that apart from having some positive impacts on agricultural sector, it brought about considerable negative impacts on this sector too. In total one can conclude that, according to the Perrouxʹs theory, the backwash effects of this industrial pole was much more than the spread effects.
