A Study of Variation and Comparison of Yield and its Components Under Two Irrigation Conditions in Mung Bean

Variation of morphological, phonological, and quantitative (with emphasis on yield and its components) traits in Mung bean were studied using two separate augment designs one for each of stress and non-stress irrigation conditions. Analysis of variance in testing for homogeneity of experimental conditions indicated a significant variation between blocks for only few traits under each of the conditions. Mean comparison of control varieties in each condition, and for most of the traits, showed no significant difference between Mehr and Partow cultivars but indicated a significant difference between Gohar and the other two cultivars. It was also observed that accessions performed better than the best among controls with regard to traits of plant height and node number. Considering other traits, however, control cultivars performed better than the accessions. Phenotypic variation for plant yield and pod number was highest (43%), while for days to 90% maturity and harvest index was the lowest (5%). Other traits exhibited average phenotypic variations (15%). Cluster analysis grouped cities involved in the study to 3 and 4 separate classes in stress and non stress conditions respectively. Class 4 of non - stress along with class I of under stress condition were considered to be the best among classes by having the lowest growth period and a high harvest index as well as high economical yield.
