چكيده لاتين :
This article deals with the potential value of citrus byproducts and presents a review of practical ways to manage this golden product, along with an economical investigation of the process. Citrus fruit processing produces enormous number of byproducts with significant value, sometimes higher than the main products. These wastes could be utilized for the efficient production of many phytochemicals, pharmaceuticals, food products, essential oils, seed oil, pectin, and dietary fibers. In addition these byproducts are considered to he the rich sources of edible and health promoting agents like polymethoxylated ftavonoids, and hydroxyeinnamates, many of which are found exclusively in citrus peels.
Samples of sour lemon, sweet lemon, grape fruits and oranges were used for handling experimental works. Food grade chemicals, micronutrients, pectin, dietary fiber, essential oil and food additives were prepared, analyzed and optimized for its maximum economical yield. The calculated payback period for a citrus-by-products processing unit was about 4 years.
